Early College Academy (ECA) student Eleno Llanos has a lot to celebrate as he gets ready to graduate. The Senior is a leader in the Native community, dedicated to his studies, and is always respectful to his Elders and honoring his heritage. At the 2015 ECA Luncheon, Eleno stood before more than 250 people to share his story of overcoming struggle, staying positive with support from advocates, and using NAYA resources to, as Eleno said, “become the Native man I want to be.”After listening to Eleno’s story, it is easy to see why he was awarded Comcast’s 2015 Leaders and Achievers scholarship. At the award ceremony this past weekend, Eleno was one of three students honored with an additional Comcast scholarship, the Comcast Founder’s award, an additional $9,000 for the 2015-16 school year. United Way also presented Eleno a scholarship that he will use next year at Portland State University, studying to be a pharmacist. Join us in congratulating Eleno and all his accomplishments and success. We look forward to seeing this young man as a future leader in our community.
