Congratulations to Tamara Henderson, who will serve as NAYA’s first Chief Programs Officer! ‍

The Native American Youth and Family Center (NAYA) continues to invest in its leadership structure as the organization grows and evolves.

NAYA is a dynamic organization that has grown significantly in recent years, with expanded programs, facilities, advocacy efforts, and organizational complexity, including operations in two states.

“We need to invest in our infrastructure to create the stabilization that staff, families and the broader community deserve. Tamara Henderson has the experience and dedication that we need. I’m so grateful she is willing to be our first Chief Programs Officer,” said Oscar Arana, NAYA Chief Executive Officer.

The addition of a Chief Programs Officer role will strengthen alignment across NAYA's 40+ wraparound services, enhance program effectiveness and client experience, and support organizational and community advocacy efforts. The role represents a strategic investment in leadership capacity that will keep pace with NAYA’s growth, strengthen coordination across programs, and position the organization for long-term success.

Tamara brings extensive programmatic experience, deep organizational knowledge, and strong relationships across our staff, funders, and community. Tamara (Laguna Pueblo) has consistently demonstrated a commitment to NAYA's mission and values.

Tamara has held a variety of leadership roles during her 15 years of service at NAYA. She served as NAYA’s first Chief Operations Officer for more than 4 years and previously served as Director of Youth and Education Services for more than 5 years. Since 2000, Tamara has been an activist and advocate for racial justice, equity, and college access.

“I am truly honored and excited to be entrusted with this important role. It’s been incredibly gratifying to see so many families succeed in so many ways. My new role as Chief Programs Officer invigorates my motivation to give back in ways that are even more impactful,” said Henderson.

NAYA will conduct a national search this fall to identify Tamara’s successor as Chief Operations Officer. A position description is expected to be released in early October. To ensure continuity during the transition, Tamara will remain in her current role until her successor is hired, at which time she will transition into her new role as Chief Programs Officer.

“I am confident that Tamara’s leadership sets up NAYA well for the future while providing continuity for staff and clients,” said Arana.

Please join us in congratulating Tamara Henderson on this important new chapter in her 15 years of service to NAYA and the Native community.
