Yá’át’ééh!

Hello, my name is Jay Hosteen, and I am incredibly honored to introduce myself as the new Principal of the Many Nations Academy.

I am Diné (Navajo) from Tuba City, Arizona. My clans are Tangle Clan, born for Bitter Water. My maternal grandfather is Mexican Clan, and my paternal grandfather is Red Streak in the Water Clan. My identity and heritage are at the core of who I am, and I was drawn to Many Nations Academy because of our shared commitment to honoring the rich tapestry of Indigenous cultures.

My journey in education began in 2012. My passion for supporting both students and teachers led me to earn my Master's in Educational Leadership, which prepared me to step into this wonderful role. I also have a strong interest in technology's power to transform learning, which led me to earn a second Master's in Educational Technology. I’ve loved bringing that knowledge to life by leading student robotics and esports teams.

I am also a proud father to four wonderful children, a junior in college studying to be a nurse, a 6th grader, a 4th grader, and a 1st grader. My family and I are excited to be in Portland and have been touched by the warm welcome from the community.

I am so excited to be here and to get to work. I look forward to collaborating with the students, families, and staff of the NAYA community to continue the vital work of empowering our youth.
