Positive Indian Parenting is an eight week course focusing on traditional and culturally specific parenting practices and values. We will explore attitudes in a variety of traditional child-rearing ways and apply them to values and challenges of modern parenting skills.

Session 4: Harmony in Child-rearing

This session is designed to explore the traditional concept of harmony as it related to family life. Harmony, balance, and the relationships among all things will be examined by parents as they look at ways Indian people traditionally maintained a harmonious living environment. Parenting ways that prevent problems, avoid discipline, and encourage growth and self-control will be examined.

In this session parents will learn:

  • recognize some of the different historical Indian beliefs about harmony and balance
  • know how these concepts were applied to family life
  • use new skills to help prevent parenting problems before they start

Dinner and childcare are provided.
