Homeownership Program

Owning your own home can move from a dream to a reality—and NAYA Family Center can help. Our Homeownership Program provides culturally specific homeownership coaching, education, and programming that will help you plan to buy, and plan to keep, your home. Our program works to increase homeownership opportunities for Portland’s Urban Native Community and close the Native homeownership gap. All of our services are free and we are an equal housing opportunity provider.

Homebuyer Education Classes

Pathways Home: A Native Homeownership Guide is our Hombuyer Education Class curriculum that takes you through each step of the home buying process.  This culturally specific curriculum was developed by the National Congress of American Indians in partnership with the National American Indian Housing Council and the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation.  It serves as a companion to Building Native Communities: Financial Skills for Families, the curriculum used by Community Economic Development program in their Financial Wellness classes.

Pathways Home is a two-part class, held on consecutive Saturdays.  Part 1 is an overview of the steps required to purchase your home, as well as an explanation of homeownership terms lenders will use, the paperwork that you will to complete, and much more.  Part 2 highlights the roles of lenders, real estate agents, and home inspectors—with a guest speaker from each industry to tell you about their role in the transaction.

Click here for the dates of our upcoming Pathways Home: A Native Homeownership Guide classes. Our next class meets at the NAYA Family Center on both Saturdays, August 7th and 14th or August 21st and 28th from 9 am to 3 pm and at the Siletz Tribal Office on September 11th and 18th from 9 am to 3 pm.
