Learn Tax Law and Help Your Community as a Volunteer Tax Preparer
Each year, the NAYA Family Center tax site helps hundreds of Portland families get the most from their taxes for free, bringing hundreds of thousands of tax refund dollars directly into the community. It would not be possible without our amazing volunteers. Even if you have no tax knowledge, you can be a part of this amazing program as a volunteer tax preparer! Full training is provided for free at the NAYA Family Center.

This volunteer opportunity is unique—please expect to spend around 40 hours to become certified as a volunteer preparer before you can prepare tax returns.
Volunteers will:
- Complete either the classroom training (4 full days) or the self-paced on line training, both offered in November, December and January
- Pass the open-book IRS certification tests
- Prepare taxes at NAYA, or with our mobile tax prep site (several locations throughout Portland) during tax season, February 1st – April 15th
