Volunteering at the NAYA Family Center
Volunteers play an important role in the NAYA Family Center's success. We simply couldn't function without the support of our volunteers who dedicated over 2000 hours of service last year. Volunteering with us provides opportunities to:
- Connect with the Portland Metro area's Native American community,
- Gain a variety of transferable skills,
- Do what you love.
We have volunteer opportunities in the following areas:
- NAYA Early College Academy: classroom and technology support, general school support, and special projects and events
- Tutoring Center: tutoring middle and high school youth in all subject areas
- Food Pantry: coordinating food drop-off, pick-up, organization, and distribution
- Clothing Closet: coordinating clothing drop-off, pick-up, organization, and distribution
- Child Care: providing child care for parents attending NAYA Family Center classes and workshops
- Community Events: event support including set-up, food service, clean-up, security, etc.
- Sports Coaching: coach middle and high school soccer, basketball, and lacrosse
- Cultural Arts: beading, regalia construction, inter-tribal dance, drum-making, and storytelling
- Administrative Support: filing, answering multi-line telephone, light data entry, and special project support as needed
- Fundraising: grant opportunity research, general fundraising support
- Building Maintenance and Landscaping: maintenance support, gardening, and light groundskeeping
All volunteers must fill out a volunteer application and submit to a criminal background check. Please come in to the NAYA Family Center to pick up an application. Click here for directions on how to get here! Once you've completed the application and background check, our Volunteer Program Specialist will arrange a short interview and tour of the NAYA Family Center. For more information, please contact:
