Position Description

Summary of Position: The VISTA Resource VISTA Resource and Sustainability Specialist will work with other VISTA members to assist the Native American Youth and Family Center (NAYA Family Center) in building organizational capacity.  The VISTA Resource Systems Analyst will assist in the development of strategies to refine and enhance NAYA Family Center’s financial capacity and capabilities for managing resources. Systems refinement will increase NAYA Family Center’s efficiency and effectiveness and allow NAYA to reach its agency goal of improving Native American family stability and promoting Native American self-sufficiency in the Portland Metro Area.

Duties and Responsibilities: The VISTA Resource and Sustainability Specialist will work directly with the Sustainability Officer in meeting the overall goal of unifying and standardizing NAYA grant and donor development systems as well standardizing internal and external development strategies and protocol. This person will participate in the following activities:

A:  Aid in the development of a system to monitor grants from inception to continuation and/or completion.
B:  Assist in refining standardized processes to track cash and in-kind donations. Assist in training staff and implementing processes
C: Work with staff to effectively transition to a new donor database.  Standardize means of data entry to ensure quality control and effective donor tracking and reporting.
D:  Support the development of an events planning system. The events planning system will track all levels of resources associated with an event, including donations, solicitation of donation, staff and volunteers, etc.
E:  Assist in creating internal development training and messaging documents. Such documents will include standardized protocol for donor relations, donation solicitation and standardize communication of NAYA’s mission and story to external funders.  Information will be used both internally and externally to strengthen staff and board fundraising methods and activities and ensure effective communication to outside agencies, press and donors.

Preferred Qualifications: This position requires solid research and writing experience and data management skills. Pertinent background may include general fundraising experience and/or an educational background in language arts, technical writing, social services or business, administration. Additional qualifications sought include:

•    Excellent communication, writing and organizational skills.
•    Detail oriented, preferably with strong analytical skills.
•    Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite and proficient at data entry and systems applications.
•    Knowledge and experience in nonprofit agencies is preferred.
•    Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, Native culture and issues.
•    Spirit of cooperation and ability to work as part of a team.
